The Asian Arts Museum project was a seismic retrofit of the previous San Francisco Main Library following the Loma Prieta Earthquake. The building consists of a three-story above grade and one level below grade totaling 163,000 square feet and constructed of unreinforced concrete and masonry, as well as concrete encased steel columns and beams. The major work included temporary lateral bracing, site shoring, earthwork, reinforced concrete placement, drilled dowels/anchors in grout and resin, expansion anchors, epoxy injection, brick masonry crack repair, concrete masonry, stone cladding, anchoring of stonework, structural steel installations, metal decking, cold-formed metal framing, roofing, seismic isolation and interior stone facing.
Signet provided special inspection and materials testing services including concrete, welding, proof load testing, masonry and base isolators. Off-site structural steel fabrication included locations in Oakland, California and El Paso, Texas. We had a Resident Inspector and additional staff for more than three years of construction.
